A conversation with Finn Elvi Kurri, a person who has been a foster mum to many pups,and later – future guide dogs for the blind.
I have arranged to meet Elvi at 8.00 am in one of Riga’s hotels. I wonder what Elvi Kurri will be like – pride of Finland, a woman who has offered a temporary home, as well as raised and taught an enormous number of dogs, which have subsequently become guide dogs for the blind. It has been nearly a year since the dog association TEODORS was established in Latvia. Now the time has come to introduce the dog association to the readers from the library in Daugavpils as well as to people interested in service dogs. For this reason, on May 30th association traveled to Daugavpils. The association brought along guide dogs Teodors, Olle and Diva. We were warmly welcomed. Daugavpils was a great experience and we would love to visit again.

In January 2013, several representatives of the Latvian Ministry of Children and Family Affairs and of the Latvian Society of the Blind met to discuss the situation of people with disabilities and came to the conclusion that, with regard to the next decade, there will be minimal or no public funds available for the support of disabled persons.
